Path to Hockey

Learn to Skate
Skating is the most important and fundamental skill required to play the game of hockey. Players must complete the Pre-Alpha Level of Learn to Skate in order to start their hockey training.

NHL Learn to Play • Lil Knights • Girls Learn to Play
After completing the Pre-Alpha Level of Learn to Skate, players ages 5-9 can join NHL Learn to Play. This program is an NHL initiative that allows players to get into the sport for the lowest possible price, it is only available as a one time program for a very specific age range.
If you are outside of the NHL Learn to Play age range, your child will enter the Lil Knights Cross Ice Program. This program is open to ages 4-16. Lil Knights consists of three levels. Players must master a specific set of skills before moving to the next level of the program. It generally takes players 3-4 eight week sessions to advance their skills enough to join a team. This can vary greatly between players of different ages.
Girls Learn to Play is a program designed to give girls a hockey community that can either stand alone or supplement any of our introductory programs. Traditionally, all girls teams are only available to players once they are at the travel level. Our goal is to give the players a chance to play in an all-girls setting from the start of their hockey journey.

House League
Players ages 5-18 are eligible to play in the Las Vegas Ice Center Youth Hockey League. This league has divisions at the 8U, 10U. 12U, 14U, and High School age groups. This is a recreational league where every kid is placed on a team. Teams practice once per week and have games once per week. We run a fall (August-December), Winter (January-April) and Summer season.

Travel Hockey
The Las Vegas Ice Center houses the Storm Travel Hockey Organization. Travel hockey is intended for committed, high level players that compete with other elite teams across the country. Travel teams hold tryouts in the spring for the following hockey season. Exact schedules vary across age divisions, but all storm travel teams require a significant time and monetary commitment from families August-March.
